AUDITION INFORMATION FOR “What If” feature film

We are looking for actors for the lead role in an upcoming comedy feature film.

ABOUT US:

The Director and DP have won numerous awards and create high quality films. The Director is a Broadway veteran and loves working with great actors… This is a NON-UNION production, and yes, of the low-low budget type. But there is a huge amount of sweat equity and top-notch film gear and post-production in place for this production. We’re seeking actors of a high caliber to fit.

TO AUDITION:

Please send us a video of you reading from the appropriate side (below). We don’t care about quality of video, or if it’s a messy background, shoot on your phone if you wish. We just want to see and hear you clearly. Upload your video YouTube/vimeo/dropbox (or other) and send us the link – as long as we can watch it easily!

TIPS ON HOW TO AUDITION:

Try to FIND THE FUNNY moments in the scene. This is for a COMEDY. Bland readings, slow readings, overly dramatic readings, etc. won’t work for this…. FIND THE HUMOR. Readings with good pacing, beats and dynamics (different levels of intensity, quiet to loud) will probably stand out.

NOTE – Males:
Can submit more than once if you truly feel you’d like to submit options. (We are casting male lead roles from these sides that include New Yorkers, Irish/Scottish, Jewish (a modern nerdy jew who likes rap), and open to other ethnicities/accents for various roles). You can submit multiple videos for multiple roles if you wish.

SOME OF THE PARTS YOU CAN READ FOR:

LEAD MALE – John:
Roughly 27-40. Charismatic, funny. We urge all ethnicities to submit. Must be athletic enough to perform light stunts (running, jumping, falling). Must have a great smile and a fun-loving attitude. Must have comedic timing. People who do improv is a plus.

LEAD MALE – Sam:
Roughly 27-40. Scottish, Irish or English. Most important: Funny. Great with the one-liners. Master of the nervous humour. Think Simon Pegg, Rhys Ifans, or Richard Coyle from ‘coupling’.

LEAD MALE – Bernie:
Roughly 27-40. A Jewish New Yorker. Must be funny. Leaning towards the nerdy side. Maybe not as far as Woody Allen, but Michael Cera isn’t too far off (and he’s not actually Jewish!). Not an old jew, a 2018 jew, throws in the accent, but likes rap too.

LEAD MALE – Alexei:
Roughly 27-45. Russian. Must have the accent and can do the dry humour. We’re leaning towards someone big and burly, but open to other options.

LEAD FEMALE – Sara: (Note: We are casting for more than just ‘Sara’ from this read.)
We urge all ethnicities to submit. She’s super-smart and not afraid to speak her mind, beautiful, charming, and sweet at times.

GRANDFATHER:
50-80: A tough old coot (we’re willing to add age makeup to the right person if on the young side). We urge all ethnicities to submit. Think Ed O’Neill as Jay Pritchet on “Modern Family”, or Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford on “Sanford and Son”. He should be rough around the edges but get under our skin with his charm.

MILITARY COMMANDER:
35-75: Looking for the classic commanding voice.

DONALD TRUMP:
You should have the features that could somehow, through makeup and hair, make you look similar enough to him. This is an acting role. Must be able to do the voice and be funny, but also maintain a sense of realism.
